TIR (Transport International Rout)

TIR (Transport International Rout) is French and is a full explanation of international road transport (TIR). Blue plate with white lettering TIR is a kind of pass on the borders - international transit system that simplifies and speeds up the international carriage of goods. Introduced in November 1975, Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) TIR Convention, which entered into force in 1978, still remains one of the most successful international transport conventions and in fact the only universal transit system. This convention contributed to the facilitation of international transport in general and road transport in particular, even in the most underdeveloped regions. Currently, the TIR Convention, 1975 has already joined 56 countries. It includes all the modern requirements relating to multimodal transport technologies and their implementation. In addition, technical innovations are constantly considered and introduced changes in customs and transport rules. An original certificate for the right to unrestricted traffic are the TIR Carnet. TIR plate is a clear sign of recognition for the controlling bodies.

Such a label could do every so and customs, and border guards will check not only the writing on the board, but also the existence of the documents, that is, of TIR Carnets. The success of this transit system can be judged by the number of TIR Carnets (carriers still referred to as "carnets"), issued every year. So, if in 1952 it was granted a little more than 3,000 books, in the 70s and 80s the demand for them has been in the range of 500-900 thousand a year. But by the mid-90s, due to the expansion of economic relations between Eastern and Western Europe and the subsequent increase in international road transport, the number of transport operations from the TIR Carnet exceeded 2 million a year. In Ukraine, the number of TIR Carnets are also increasing - in 1998 they issued more than 100,000.

If Ukrainian carriers want to be include into the system of international road transport and get the TIR Carnet, firstly they need to be a member of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (Ukraine AsMAP).
